Feltmaking for Beginners

Saturday 22nd February 2020

1.00pm - 4.00pm

Knit and Stitch, Colliergate, York

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Join me and learn how to create a beautiful piece of felt. Using wet felting techniques you will have the opportunity to experiment with silkily soft merino wool fibres, play with colours and shapes and learn how to craft a lovely woolly piece of fabric that you can take home to use as a wall hanging, a framed piece of art, or to use as a piece of fabric to sew any item you can think of from.

A small library of images will be available to look through on the day to use as inspiration, or a rough starting point. Alternatively, if you’d like to bring an image to use as inspiration, you’re more than welcome to do so. Please note that this is a beginners class, and we will only be working in relatively simple shapes at this stage.

WHAT TO BRING:

All necessary materials will be provided. It would be useful to bring a clean towel and a plastic bag though, as your piece of felt is unlikely to be dry by the time you’re leaving.

WHAT YOU WILL TAKE AWAY WITH YOU:

A lovely, tactile piece of felt. Designed and created by yourself. Note: It’s likely to still be damp, so bringing a clean tea towel and a plastic bag is a good idea.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

None at all. This is a beginners workshop and no previous experience of felt making or working with wool fibres is necessary at all.

NUMBER OF PLACES:
There are 7 spaces available for each course. With such a small number of us, everyone will get plenty of one-to-one time and have the opportunity to ask any questions or queries as they come up.

ACCESS TO VENUE:
The workshop room that we'll be using for the afternoon is up a flight of stairs and I'm afraid there is no lift. Feel free to contact me if you need further information or specific details.

There is no parking at this venue. The nearest car park is the Shambles Q-Park, a 4 minute walk away. If you are coming to York via train, the station is about 15 minute walk away or a 10 minute taxi ride.

PRICE:

The Price for the afternoon is £35. Included in the price are all the tools and materials needed to create one beautiful piece of felt. Tea, coffee, cordial and biscuits will also be provided throughout the afternoon.

BOOKING YOUR PLACE:

To book a place on one of my workshops, please send me an email to katwoodcreates@gmail.com with your name, which workshop you would like to attend and your email address.

QUESTIONS?:

If there is anything that you’d like to ask, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
